Country of origin
All products from Vera Donna GmbH are purely handmade in traditional German bookbinder craftmanship in our manufactory located in Sinzig at the river Rhine. The grained full cow-hide leather of the cover is made in Italy. It is tanned in barrels and has a natural colloration. We control every leather skin for quality features and only use the best parts for book covers – remnants are used for example for test embossing. Our writing paper is made in Germany and Italy and meets the highest quality requirements. We purchase accessoiries, such as reading tapes, ribbons, yarn or decorations, only from choosen suppliers within Europe, mainly Germany.
From a special quality is our chamoiscolored writing paper in 100 g/m². It is torn by hand on the three edges of each page. The paper is absolutely acid free and is therefore best usable for writing with ink.
A special detail of this handmade guestbook is the binding made with longlasting thread stitching. The fact, that each page is sewn by hand, makes this book very different from cheaper massproduction books which are glued only. Two high quality satin ribbons are added to mark special pages. To achive the typical character of books, the block back is rounded by hand. An additional headband decorates the block.
The beautiful cover with its high-quality grained full cow-hide leather gives this guestbook a very special and noble look. For the soft haptics of our book, the cover is worked as a softcover. Another indicator of pure handwork are the hand-drawn “round corners”. Every edge is moved in and rounded by awl.

Bookbindery handwork made in Germany. Our handmade products prove that the philosophy “new is better” isn´t always right. Some of our machines are in use since more than 50 years and still work perfectly. This has nothing to do with nostalgia, but with the fact that they produce better quality – in techniques, that were almost forgotten, but nowadays are more than ever known as elements for the highest quality in bookbindery. That is why our production is a combination of the highest level of craftsmanship, precision and a wide portfolio of finest materials. What is the result? We call it capolavoro, you call it masterpiece.
